Whiskey is excellent for drinking straight, but it is also an excellent base for making cocktails. We chose some of the most famous ones to try during the summer.
Old Fashioned
The Old Fashioned cocktail originated in the United States in the 1930s. It is a very simple and rather alcoholic drink.
Ingredients:
4.5 cl Bourbon or Rye Whiskey
2 drops of Angostura
1 lump of sugar
a spray of natural water
Preparation
Place a lump of sugar on the bottom of the glass and wet it with a couple of drops of Angostura and mix by dissolving the sugar. Fill the glass with ice and add the whiskey. Garnish with an orange slice and a Maraschino cherry.
Irish Coffee
It is certainly one of the most famous cocktails, a sort of coffee reinforced with Whiskey, which has become famous all over the world.
Ingredients:
4 cl of Irish Whiskey
8 cl of espresso coffee
3 cl of fresh cream
1 teaspoon of brown sugar
Preparation
Pour the Irish Whiskey, sugar and add the coffee into a glass. Shake the cream without ice and pour it on the surface of the drink.
Manhattan
Manhattan is a simple and rather alcoholic cocktail based on Rye Whiskey and Red Vermouth. Apparently it was created in New York in the late 1800s, perhaps right at the Manhattan Bar. Today it is served all over the world and is one of the most popular drinks as an aperitif.
Ingredients:
5 cl Rye Whiskey
2 cl Red Vermouth
a few drops of Angostura
Preparation
Pour the ingredients into a mixing glass with ice, mix well and pour into the glass.
Garnish with a Maraschino cherry.
Whiskey Sour
Fresh and refreshing, it is a particularly pleasant summer cocktail also as an aperitif.
Ingredients:
4.5 cl of Bourbon Whiskey
3 cl of fresh lemon juice
1.5 cl of sugar syrup
1 egg white (optional)
Preparation
Pour all the ingredients into the shaker with ice, strain and pour into the glass.
If served with ice, garnish with half an orange slice and Maraschino cherry.
Blood and Sand
It is a cocktail born in the 1920s and inspired by the homonymous film starring Rodolfo Valentino. A mixology classic with a rather soft and sweet profile.
Ingredients:
3 cl of Scotch Whiskey
3 cl of Cherry Heering
3 cl of red Vermouth
3 cl of orange juice
Preparation
Pour all the ingredients into the shaker with ice, strain and pour into the glass.
Boulevardier cocktail
The Boulevardier is actually a Negroni cocktail made with Whiskey instead of Gin.
Ingredients:
3 cl of Whiskey
3 cl of Red Vermouth
3 cl of Bitter Campari
Preparation
Fill a mixing glass with ice, pour in all the ingredients and mix. Strain and pour into a cocktail glass.
Rusty Nail
The name "rusty nail" recalls the color of the cocktail, which is distinguished by its high alcohol content. It is a hot and powerful drink, dedicated to Whiskey lovers.
Ingredients:
4.5 cl Scotch Whiskey
2.5 cl Drambuie
Preparation
Pour the ingredients into the glass with ice and mix.
Garnish with a lemon zest.
