Garnacha is one of the most popular red berried grapes in the world. Originally from Spain, it found widespread in the Mediterranean basin and in particular in the lands that in the fifteenth century. they were under the control of the Kingdom of Aragon, such as Sardinia, where it took the names of Granaccia or Uva di Spagna, or the one most familiar to us in Cannonau. In Italy it is found, with the name of Alicante, also in Tuscany, Lazio and Umbria; while it could correspond to the red Tocai in Veneto and the Vernaccia di Serrapetrona in the Marche. In France it is known as Grenache and is associated with the wines of the Rhone Valley and Southern France and in particular in the areas of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas and Languedoc-Roussillon, where it is often used in blends with other grapes.

Generally it presents the nose with aromas of small red berry fruits, such as strawberry and raspberry, accompanied by spicy and ethereal hints. Granacha is most often used in blends with other grapes, to give body and fruity hints. The high sugar content and the lack of tannins make Granacha a grape suitable for the production of fortified wines such as the natural sweets of Banyuls.
