Description
What kind of wine it is
The Vino Nobile di Montepulciano by Poliziano is a Tuscan red made predominantly from Prugnolo Gentile grapes, the local synonym for Sangiovese. Alongside the main variety, Colorino, Canaiolo, and Merlot also play a role, contributing to the wine’s structure and complexity. The result is a red with character, able to combine elegance and depth, true to the appellation’s style.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from vineyards located in the municipality of Montepulciano, in the Sienese hills of Tuscany. Harvesting is carried out exclusively by hand, a choice that allows careful selection of the bunches destined for vinification. This geographic origin, together with the varietal blend based on Prugnolo Gentile, defines the identity of the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano produced by Poliziano.
How it’s made
Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with punch-downs alternating with pump-overs to promote the extraction of phenolic compounds from the skins. The wine then ages in oak barriques for sixteen months before bottling. This process builds the tannic structure and aromatic complexity that characterize the wine.
Tasting notes
It shows a clear, bright ruby red color. On the nose, aromas of mulberries and plums open up, enriched by spicy notes of quinine and tobacco. On the palate it is balanced, supported by polished tannins and good freshness that carries the sip through to the finish.
Food pairings
This Nobile di Montepulciano is perfect with dishes featuring meat ragù, stews, and roasts. It pairs just as naturally with game and aged cheeses, where the wine’s tannic structure and freshness find a natural balance with more intense flavors.
When to serve it
It is a wine suited to substantial, meat-based meals, where its tannic structure and aromatic complexity can fully express themselves. It is well suited to convivial occasions during the colder months, especially alongside game dishes or braises.
