Jumilla
Jumilla PDO is an important Spanish appellation of the provinces of Albacete and Murcia, which includes a vineyard area with a total area of 4,500 hectares. The climate of the region is continental, with very hot summers and cold winters. The vines are grown in a hilly area, on poor soils with a predominantly calcareous matrix composition, with soils rich in rocks and stones.
The grapes mostly grown in the Jumilla PDO appellation are monastell, which occupies about 90% of the area under vines, and garnacha tintorera, two of the most common red berried grapes in Spain. Jumilla PDO wines are reds produced with pure monastell or with a blend of monastell and a small percentage of garnacha tintorera. They are reds of good structure with a rich body, wide, warm and deep.
