Description

What kind of wine is it

Aglianico del Vulture Grifalco by Grifalco is a still red wine made from pure Aglianico grapes grown in the Vulture area of Basilicata. The style develops through vinification in stainless steel at controlled temperatures and aging in second-use French oak barrels, resulting in a well-structured profile, noticeable tannins, and a clear freshness.

Where it comes from

The grapes are sourced from Grifalco's vineyards located in the municipalities of Venosa, Maschito, and Forenza, in the heart of the Vulture area in Basilicata. This origin shapes the wine's identity and guides its character, giving it a recognizable and consistent signature in the glass.

How it is produced

Harvesting is done by hand with a selection in the vineyard, followed by a second sorting in the winery using linear destemming to remove green residues and work only with ripe berries. After gentle crushing and destemming, fermentation takes place in stainless steel at controlled temperatures not exceeding 28 °C, with about ten days of skin maceration. After racking, the wine ages on fine lees in second-use French oak barriques and tonneaux for a period between 6 and 12 months, undergoes malolactic fermentation, then stabilizes in steel, is bottled, and completes at least six months of bottle aging.

Tasting notes

In the glass, it shows an intense ruby red color. The aroma opens with a mineral hint of graphite, followed by cocoa, coffee, and smoky notes, with highlights of red fruit and black pepper. On the palate, it is balanced and enveloping, with medium structure, soft tannins, and lively acidity that support persistence and depth.

Food pairings

At the table, it naturally pairs with meats and cheeses, enhancing the richness of dishes thanks to its balanced sip, supported by freshness and pronounced tannins. Toasted and spicy notes in the background complement flavorful preparations without overpowering the dish's aromas.

When to serve it

This red is suitable for meals and convivial occasions, perfect when you want a wine with good presence but easy to drink. If opened young, a short time in the glass helps soften the toasty notes and makes the profile even more harmonious, while keeping freshness and tannic structure at the forefront.
