Description
What kind of wine it is
Allegrini’s Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a dry red wine made from dried grapes, the result of years of research with which the winery has developed its own style, aimed at enhancing the fruit component. It is a deep, structured red, designed for those seeking an Amarone with a clear-cut character and well-defined fruit.
Where it comes from
It originates in the Valpolicella Classico zone, in Veneto, where Allegrini works the local grapes with the expertise developed over years of experimentation. The bond with its area of origin and the care taken in the vineyard and cellar give the wine a distinct identity.
How it is made
It is obtained mainly from Corvina Veronese grapes, with the addition of Corvinone, Rondinella and Oseleta. The grapes are hand-harvested in the second week of September and left to dry in a drying loft until December. The must ferments for 25 days in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature. The wine then ages for 18 months in new oak and a further 14 months in bottle before release.
Tasting notes
In the glass it shows a dark ruby red. The nose offers hints of ripe red fruit and light spicy notes. On the palate it is deep and full-bodied, with polished tannins that lend vigor and drive, leading to a velvety finish with pleasant persistence.
Food pairing
It pairs well with braised meats and grilled red meats. It also accompanies game and very aged cheeses, and stands up to the sweet-and-sour dishes of Asian cuisine.
When to serve it
It is a wine for substantial meals, suited to dinners featuring meat, game and aged cheeses. It is best served in a large glass and opened ahead of time so that the fruit and spicy notes can open up. Its structure and polished tannins also make it suitable for a few years of cellar ageing.
