Description
What kind of wine it is
La Fenice by Pier Paolo Grasso is a Barbaresco, a Piedmontese red wine made from Nebbiolo grapes. It shows a bright garnet hue with good density. It is a youthful Barbaresco that stands out for its fresh complexity and an understated grandeur, with a full body and a graceful palate.
Where it comes from
Work in the vineyard and cellar is based on respect for the land, which the estate borrows from future generations and must return in good condition. This idea is summed up by the word "Vinnoviamo" on the labels, a play on words that links environmental care to a thoughtful way of making wine. In Neive the estate has built a winery that reflects this philosophy, with carefully chosen materials, a sustainable environmental footprint and spaces dedicated to guests, where one can take a break and savour the wine in peace.
How it is made
La Fenice is made exclusively from Nebbiolo. Aging takes place in large oak casks, which nurture the wine with respect for the fruit and enrich the profile with spicy nuances without overshadowing the grape’s varietal character.
Tasting notes
On the eye it is bright garnet. On the nose, rose and fresh wisteria flowers open, followed by red fruits, amarena cherry and plum, graphite and a good dose of spice. Then come balsamic notes of mint and eucalyptus, juniper berries and a touch of cocoa. On the palate it is very fresh, with a full yet graceful body, youthful tannins and marked salinity. The finish is long, balsamic and spicy, with clear echoes of black pepper.
Food pairings
Its delicate grandeur makes it a pleasure with Piedmontese cured meats and cheeses, particularly testun di Langa aged in Nebbiolo pomace. It also pairs seamlessly with hearty, spiced red-meat dishes, where structure and salinity find a natural balance.
When to serve it
It is a Barbaresco for important dinners and Sunday lunches, on the table with meat dishes and cheeses. We recommend opening the bottle at least an hour before serving and decanting it, to allow the floral, fruity and balsamic aromas to emerge. Its youthful, fresh character also makes it suitable for those approaching Barbaresco for the first time.
