Description
What kind of wine it is
Barolo Cerretta Giacomo Conterno is a red wine from the Langhe made from Nebbiolo grapes grown in the Cerretta cru, in the Barolo area. It reflects the traditional style of Serralunga d’Alba, with an elegant and austere profile, deep structure and a very persistent finish, supported by long ageing in large barrels.
Where it comes from
Giacomo Conterno has been producing wines in Monforte d’Alba for over a century and is a benchmark for traditional Langhe reds. This label originates in the northern zone of Serralunga d’Alba, from parcels located in the Cerretta cru. The separate vinification of the vineyards enhances the identity of the place and maintains a rigorous and well-defined character.
How it is produced
Production follows the historic Langhe tradition of red winemaking, with skin maceration. After fermentation, the wine matures for at least 40 months in large casks, a process that helps integrate the tannic structure and supports the complexity, while preserving the unique character of the Cerretta cru.
Tasting notes
In the glass, it displays a garnet hue. On the nose, it is composed, with floral aromas, hints of medicinal herbs and spices, over a base of raspberry and red currant. The palate is deep, powerful and complex, with lively tannins and a long finish that confirms its age-worthy structure.
Pairings
It pairs well with rich, slow-cooked dishes that can stand up to its structure and tannin, such as game, braised meats and roast beef. Its elegant yet austere character makes it a good match for succulent meats and concentrated sauces, echoing the wine’s lingering finish.
When to serve
This is a Barolo to choose when you want a structured and complex red, ideal for special convivial occasions and important meat dishes. The extended aging in large casks and lively tannins hint at a great potential for further evolution, rewarding additional time in the bottle and allowing for a complete tasting experience.
