Description
What kind of wine is it
The Barolo Cerequio by Batasiolo is a still red wine made from Nebbiolo grapes. It tastes dry, harmonious and velvety, with delicate spicy aromas. The profile is full and elegant, focusing on a balance between structure and finesse, in the style of the great reds of Piedmont.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the historic Barolo area, specifically the cru Cerequio in the municipality of La Morra. It is one of the most esteemed vineyards in the area, known for producing wines of elegance and character. The soil and climate of this cru give the wine a pronounced sense of place.
How it is made
After destemming, the Nebbiolo grapes ferment with skin maceration for at least 10–12 days in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks with periodic pump-overs. Ageing takes place in Slavonian oak casks, then in stainless-steel tanks. This is followed by a period of bottle ageing.
Tasting notes
In the glass it shows a deep garnet red with orange highlights. On the nose it impresses with intensity and complexity, with balsamic, vegetal, floral and spicy aromas enriched by hints of incense, wax, tobacco and coffee, and a delicate ethereal note. On the palate it is full, elegant and harmonious, with long persistence and perfect balance.
What to pair it with
It pairs well with dishes of red meat, game and roasts, as well as with aged, flavorful cheeses. In Piedmontese cuisine it matches brasato al Barolo, tajarin with meat ragù and bollito misto, where the wine’s structure stands up to the richness of the dishes.
When to serve it
It is a red suited to special-occasion dinners featuring meat and game, and to tables where a wine with character is sought. It’s best served in a large-bowled glass and allowed to breathe for a few minutes before drinking, so the aromas open up and the palate is more harmonious. Its structure allows it to evolve in the bottle over time.
