Description
What kind of wine is it
The Barolo Riserva by Enzo Boglietti is a red wine made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes, from a vineyard in La Morra. It has a broad, deep and enveloping profile, supported by silky tannins and a vibrant acid-saline streak. It’s a Barolo conceived for long aging, produced in very limited quantities.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from a vineyard in La Morra, in the Langhe, in Piedmont. Planted in 2005, the vineyard lies at 300–350 metres above sea level with a south/south-east exposure, on an alkaline silty clay loam that is very poor in organic matter.
How it’s made
Fermentation lasts 28 days at controlled temperature, with daily punch-downs and pump-overs, and continues with a 60-day post-fermentation maceration with submerged cap, which gives structure and depth to Nebbiolo. Aging is completed in 30 months of French oak, which accompanies the wine’s evolution.
Tasting notes
In appearance it’s an intense, bright ruby–garnet red. The nose is complex and elegant: ripe dark fruit intertwines with notes of spice, tobacco, leather and forest floor, accompanied by balsamic nuances of menthol and licorice. On the palate it’s broad, deep and enveloping, with silky, well-integrated tannins and a vibrant acid-saline streak. The progression is long and precise, with a persistent, mineral finish enriched by elegant balsamic echoes.
Food pairings
Barolo Riserva pairs well with the grand dishes of Piedmontese cuisine: Barolo-braised beef, red meats, game, lamb and aged cheeses. Its full structure and acid-saline streak support rich, slow-cooked dishes.
When to serve it
It’s a red for special occasions and for those seeking a Barolo with a long evolution: it has an aging potential of up to 15–20 years. A large-bowled glass and good aeration after opening enhance its complexity.
