Description
What kind of wine is it
Barolo Perno Riserva Castello di Perno is a red wine made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes grown in Piedmont, in the municipality of Monforte d’Alba. It originates from a small parcel in the Perno cru and expresses a structured and complex style, with fine tannins and a clear mineral imprint. The winemaking process includes spontaneous fermentation and lengthy maceration, followed by maturation in large barrels and an extended rest in the bottle, resulting in balance and a potential for evolution.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the Perno cru, in the territory of Monforte d’Alba, from a parcel spanning just a few hectares. The soil, characterized by a mineral component between limestone and sand, helps define precision and energy on the palate. The vineyard’s identity emerges in a profile that combines fruit concentration, fine tannins, and freshness that accompanies persistence, making the wine's style recognizable.
How it is produced
Vinification begins with spontaneous fermentation, followed by punch-downs and submerged cap maceration lasting 35 days to extract structure and aromatic components from the Nebbiolo. After fermentation, the wine matures for two years in large Austrian oak barrels, allowing for gradual evolution. It is then refined for a further four years in the bottle before release, contributing to integration and complexity.
Tasting notes
In the glass, it presents a red of good intensity. On the nose, the bouquet is delicate, with hints of concentrated fruit and a mineral core accompanying the aromatic profile. On the palate, the tannins are fine and well integrated; freshness and balance create a complex texture. The finish is long and persistent, with consistent mineral notes.
Food pairings
It pairs effectively with game dishes, where its structure and tannins complement flavorful meats, and with aged cheeses that enhance its intensity and persistence. At the table, it also suits rich, slow-cooked dishes. Among the best pairings is brasato al Barolo, thanks to its matching structure and aromatic depth.
When to serve it
This is a wine to choose when you want a red of great structure and depth, suitable for boldly flavored dishes. The long maturation in both large barrels and bottle ensures longevity and a gradual integration of its taste profile. The balance of freshness, fine tannins, and complexity makes it suitable for extended aging, ideal when you seek a persistent and harmonious sip.
