Description

What kind of wine it is

Rocche di Castiglione by Oddero is a structured red wine, interpreted in the traditional style with a classic approach. Made from Nebbiolo grapes grown in Castiglione Falletto, this Barolo combines elegance and harmony, defined by a fine tannic texture. The lengthy aging process enriches the profile, making it enveloping, complex, and with a lingering finish.

Where it comes from

The wine originates from the historic Rocche di Castiglione cru, located in the municipality of Castiglione Falletto. The vines, over fifty years old, benefit from excellent south-east exposure and stand at 250 meters above sea level, a position that favors the typical expression of Nebbiolo. The Oddero estate, active since the late eighteenth century, manages plots in prestigious crus such as Brunate, Bussia, Vigna Rionda, and Villero, confirming a coherent and traditional interpretation of the region.

How it is produced

Production begins with a rigorous selection of grape clusters, carried out first in the vineyard and then in the cellar. The grapes undergo fermentation with skin maceration to extract aromatic and structural components. The wine then matures for thirty months in oak barrels, a choice that ensures a slow evolution and preserves the varietal profile. The process concludes with a year of bottle aging.

Tasting notes

In the glass it shows a ruby red color and offers aromas defined by notes of medicinal herbs and liquorice root. Balsamic hints intertwine with raspberry and cherry, delineating a sharp fruit character. On the palate, it is elegant and harmonious, led by fine tannins that guide an enveloping progression. The finish closes with a clean persistence, maintaining a deep continuity between the spicy and fruity components.

Pairings

At the table, it pairs well with braised meat agnolotti, as it enhances the intensity of the sauce thanks to its firm tannic structure. The complex aromatic profile and balsamic nuances integrate beautifully with game dishes, complementing meats with bold flavors. It also sits comfortably alongside roast red meats, supporting the succulence of the preparations with its balance and delivering consistent structural precision throughout the meal.

When to serve

This Barolo is an ideal choice for occasions that call for a classic-style red, harmonious and suitable for important dishes. After completing a long maturation in the cellar, the wine expresses itself with solid gustatory complexity. It is recommended for attentive and careful service, allowing the balsamic and fruity notes to come through clearly and ensuring a continuous progression throughout the meal.
