Description
What type of wine is it
Val di Suga’s Brunello di Montalcino is a red wine with a fruity, elegant and balanced style. It is created from the blend of three estate vineyards, each with its own identity, and combines the typical structure of Brunello with a soft, harmonious palate. It’s a red for those seeking finesse and the capacity to evolve over time.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from three Val di Suga vineyards in Montalcino: Vigna del Lago, Poggio al Granchio and Vigna Spuntali. They are spread across three sides of the Montalcino hillside, facing northwest, southeast and southwest, with differing microclimatic, geological and soil conditions. This variety of terroirs enriches the blend and defines its balance.
How it is made
Harvesting is carried out by micro-zones. In the cellar the grapes are destemmed and subjected to optical sorting, then they ferment for eight to twelve days with gentle extraction. This is followed by a post-fermentation maceration of fifteen to twenty days. The wine ages for 24 months in Slavonian oak casks and then in bottle for six to nine months before release.
Tasting notes
To the eye it is a brilliant ruby. The aromas open with notes of ripe, crunchy red fruit, orange and chinotto, with slightly balsamic hints. On the palate it is balanced and structured, with soft yet defined tannins and good acidity. The finish is persistent and deep. With age, notes of chinotto and peanut emerge.
What to pair it with
It pairs well with aged cheeses and red meats. Thanks to its structure and freshness it’s a natural match for roasts, braises and grilled meats, and it also stands up to Tuscan meat-based dishes.
When to serve it
It’s a red for special meals and for occasions when you want a wine with character. It has an aging potential of fifteen to twenty years and shows best after nine to twelve years from the harvest, when evolution enriches its notes. Serve it in a large-bowled glass, giving it time to open up.
