Description
What type of wine it is
The Cannonau di Sardegna by Antonella Corda is a dry red wine made exclusively from Cannonau grapes. It shows rich, intense fruit and a soft, harmonious palate. Gentle macerations and a judicious use of oak keep the finesse of the varietal aromas intact.
Where it comes from
The estate is located in Serdiana, a few kilometers from Cagliari, in the south of Sardinia. Since 2010 it has been run by Antonella Corda, a young winegrower who carries on the family business with the goal of producing high-quality wines. The property covers about 40 hectares, 15 of which are under vine, the rest olive groves and arable land. The vineyards lie in a hilly area with a mild, breezy Mediterranean climate.
How it is made
The Cannonau grows on stony soils, with high planting density and low yields per vine. Harvesting is by hand, picked into crates in the last part of September. It is then vinified as a red with skin maceration. The wine ages partly in stainless-steel tanks and partly in untoasted French oak barriques, a choice that preserves the freshness of the fruit.
Tasting notes
In the glass it shows a bright ruby red. The nose is fragrant, with notes of cherry, raspberry, blackberry, marasca cherry, blueberry and blackcurrant, accompanied by rose and a delicate spicy hint of white pepper. On the palate, vibrant freshness melds with warm notes and supple tannins. The result is a harmonious, satisfying sip, with full, intense fruit.
Food pairing
It pairs well with roasts and grilled meats. Its freshness and clearly defined fruit also make it suitable for boldly flavored meat mains and semi-aged cheeses.
When to serve
This is a red made for the everyday table as well as dinner with friends, especially around a barbecue or a Sunday roast. Serve in a medium-sized red wine glass. A brief opening before serving highlights its fruit and spice aromas.
