Description
Purgatori is an organic red wine produced by Familia Torres in the Costers del Segre appellation, in Catalonia. The Garnacha and Cariñena grapes come from a 200-hectare estate, 50 of which are dedicated to the production of this wine. The soil is deep, well-drained, and characterized by a fine texture with a predominance of limestone and a low presence of organic matter. The name of the wine refers to the history of the place, where in the 18th century the Benedictine monks, sent to atone for their sins, discovered the area's viticultural potential.
The winemaking process involves alcoholic fermentation in cement and stainless steel tanks, followed by a malolactic fermentation carried out entirely in barrels. Aging takes place in French oak barrels, about one-third of which are new, for a period ranging from 9 to 12 months, giving the wine structure and complexity without compromising the fruit's integrity.
In appearance, it presents a deep and impenetrable garnet color. The aromatic profile is rich and intense, with hints of blueberry, cherry preserved in alcohol, black pepper, dried figs, and dates, enriched by elegant toasted wood notes. On the palate, it reveals a soft and velvety texture, with a delicate but persistent structure, making it balanced and pleasantly harmonious.
Ideal when paired with roast meats, game, or spicy Mediterranean dishes.
