Description
Purgatori is a red wine produced by Familia Torres in the Costers del Segre appellation in Catalonia. The Garnacha and Cariñena grapes come from a 200-hectare estate, with 50 hectares dedicated to the production of this wine. The soil is deep, well-drained, and features a fine texture with a predominance of limestone and low organic matter. The name of the wine recalls the story of the place, where in the 18th century Benedictine monks sent to atone for their sins discovered the region’s winemaking potential.
Fermentation takes place in concrete and stainless steel tanks, followed by full malolactic fermentation in barriques. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels, about a third of which are new, for a period between 9 and 12 months, giving the wine structure and complexity without compromising the integrity of the fruit.
In the glass, it displays a deep, impenetrable garnet color. The aromatic profile is rich and intense, with hints of blueberry, cherry preserved in spirit, black pepper, dried figs and dates, enriched by elegant toasted wood notes. On the palate, it is soft and velvety, with a delicate yet persistent structure, making it balanced and pleasantly harmonious.
Ideal paired with roasted meats, game, or spicy Mediterranean cuisine.
