Description

What type of wine is it

Etna Rosso Trimarchisa by Tornatore is a characterful wine, obtained from a carefully crafted blend of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio grapes from vines with an average age of forty years. Its style stands out for its structured and complex drinkability, supported by soft tannins and notable persistence on the palate. Thanks to its production method, this red wine maintains a broad and generous flavour profile, authentically reflecting its volcanic territory.

Where does it come from

The grapes come from the Etna area in Sicily, specifically from the Trimarchisa locality, where the vineyards are rooted directly in an ancient lava flow. The presence of volcanic soil distinctly defines the wine's character, enriching it with a precise aromatic tension. The harvest usually takes place in mid-October, in line with the climatic pattern of this high-altitude territory, which allows slow and optimal ripening for red berry grapes.

How it is produced

After careful manual harvesting and strict selection in the winery, fermentation begins with maceration in truncated cone-shaped vats for at least ten days. During this phase, regular punch-downs are carried out to manage the extraction of aromas and colour in a balanced way. Once the additional post-fermentation maceration is complete, the wine rests in wooden barrels for eighteen months, a process that defines its structural profile before completing the production cycle with a bottle ageing of six months.

Tasting notes

In the glass, it shows a ruby red colour, with delicate violet reflections indicating its chromatic intensity. On the nose, it reveals hints of blackberry and black cherry, enriched by a slight toastiness and clear notes of Mediterranean herbs and sweet spices such as cinnamon and cloves. On the palate, the sip is generous and broad, supported by soft tannins integrated into a firm structure, offering a long, complex, and consistent finish.

Food pairings

The bold structure of this red makes it the perfect companion for roast meats and particularly elaborate first courses. It pairs harmoniously with game and grilled suckling pig, where the persistence of the wine balances the intense flavours of the dishes. Also recommended with traditional Sicilian recipes, it enhances the rich taste of pasta alla Norma and finds perfect balance with roasted meats, flavoured with aromatic herbs and spices.

When to serve it

It is an excellent choice to accompany lunches and dinners focusing on robust flavours and substantial ingredients. It is thoroughly enjoyable during convivial gatherings that require a wine capable of standing up to a complex menu while maintaining balance and breadth. Its complex character and enveloping finish also make it ideal for evenings dedicated to structured food pairings, where the richness of the cuisine finds full harmony in the glass.
