Description

What kind of wine it is

Merlot by Casale del Giglio is a structured and smooth red wine, produced in the Agro Pontino from Merlot grapes. The vinification takes place in stainless steel with controlled malolactic fermentation, followed by aging in oak barrels for 8-12 months, contributing to a harmonious and versatile style. The tannins are silky. This wine pairs well with flavorful and robust dishes.

Where it comes from

Merlot Casale del Giglio is made in the Agro Pontino, about 50 km from Rome. This area enhances the varietal characteristics of the Merlot grape.

How it is produced

Vinification occurs in temperature-controlled steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation ensures smoothness and stability, then aging in oak barrels for 8-12 months and a period in the bottle develop complexity and balance.

Tasting notes

Merlot displays an intense ruby red color. The nose reveals ripe cherry, currant, and strawberry, with herbal hints and light cocoa nuances. On the palate, it offers a full structure, smooth tannins, and balanced freshness, with a lingering finish and well-harmonized fruity notes.

Food pairings

This Merlot pairs well with typical dishes like bucatini all’Amatriciana and artichokes Roman-style, thanks to its structure and freshness. It goes well with braised beef and with semi-aged cheeses like pecorino romano. The balance between body and silky tannins makes it suitable for both local and national cuisine, enhancing red meats and rich sauces.

When to serve it

Merlot by Casale del Giglio is ideal when enjoyed young to appreciate its fresh fruitiness. In the first years, notes of fresh red fruit prevail, while over time greater complexity and tannin integration emerge.
