Description
Achaval Ferrer’s Mendoza IG Malbec Finca Altamira hails from the renowned Valle de Uco region of Argentina. The Finca Altamira vineyard is located in La Consulta, about 50 miles south of Mendoza, and is planted at 1,050 meters above sea level with vines over 80 years old. The Altamira terroir is characterized by sandy-limestone soil enriched by volcanic ash over eroded rock, ideal conditions that allow this Malbec to express its unique character.
The vinification is done using hand-picked grapes, with an aging of about 13 months in French oak barrels, of which 80% are new. This process gives the wine a complex structure and a distinctive aromatic character. The climatic conditions of the region, with wide temperature variations between day and night, contribute to developing the freshness and aromatic intensity of the grapes.
Finca Altamira has an intense ruby color and offers a rich aromatic bouquet on the nose, with notes of plum, red berries, cherries and a hint of wild herbs. On the palate, the wine is fresh and lively, with a well-defined tannic structure that leads to a long and harmonious finish. Contact with the wood adds nuances of tobacco and cedar, which integrate perfectly with the fruit.
This Malbec is ideal to accompany grilled meat dishes, game and mature cheeses, enhancing the complexity and intensity of their flavours.
