Description
What kind of wine is it
Pommard by Joseph Drouhin is a Pinot Noir from the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy. It presents a structured and complex style. The wine is full-bodied, with firm tannins and freshness that enhances the fruit of the grape. Indigenous yeasts are used during vinification, and the wine is aged for 12-16 months in French oak barrels. This choice delivers an elegant texture and good longevity.
Where does it come from
This wine is produced in the commune of Pommard, south of Beaune, on clay-limestone soils that impart a marked mineral structure. The area boasts a winemaking tradition dating back to medieval times.
How is it made
Grapes are harvested by hand with careful cluster selection. After destemming, fermentation takes place in small open vats with indigenous yeasts. Maceration lasts 2-3 weeks. Ageing continues in French oak barrels for 12-16 months.
Tasting notes
In the glass, Pommard displays a deep ruby red color with garnet highlights. The nose offers a bouquet of black cherry, spices, and leather notes. On the palate, the tannins are pronounced but well-integrated, supported by lively acidity and a long aromatic finish.
Food pairing
Pommard by Joseph Drouhin pairs well with roast or braised red meats. Its tannic structure enhances the tenderness of the meat and the richness of the sauce.
When to serve it
Recommended serving temperature is 16–18°C in large glasses to highlight its aromatic intensity and structure. The wine drinks well after a few years and has excellent ageing potential.
