Description
What kind of wine is it?
Pommard by Louis Jadot is a red wine with an intense profile and deep aromatic expression. Vinification with extended maceration and maturation in oak barriques create a structured and complex style. It reveals mature notes and a noticeable tannic texture, supported by excellent acidity. The character is solid, ideal for pairing with rich and flavorful dishes, as it offers a long finish consistent with the aromas sensed on the nose.
Where does it come from?
The village of Pommard is located in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, situated between the communes of Volnay to the south and Beaune to the north. In this specific area, the limestone and clay soils endow the wine with a deep color and pronounced aromatic intensity. The territorial context leaves a distinctive mark on the glass, bringing sensations of dark fruit and hints of leather. This geographic and geological combination makes the wine a solid benchmark for the region’s structured reds.
How is it produced?
After destemming, the grapes begin a slow maceration in open vats for four weeks, designed to extract color and allow for full territorial expression. Fermentation occurs during this prolonged contact with the skins, ensuring the development of a robust texture. Once vinification is complete, the wine ages for eighteen months in oak barriques. This time in wood enhances the aromatic complexity and perfectly integrates the tannic component.
Tasting notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby red color, with an intense shade that anticipates a sip of great concentration. The nose is bold, dominated by black fruits such as blackcurrant, followed by notes of moss and game, with a slight spicy hint closing the bouquet. On the palate, it confirms a solid structure, supported by ripe tannins and balanced acidity that gives proper freshness to the sip. The length is remarkable, with recurring fruit notes and a broad, lingering finish.
Food pairings
This red pairs perfectly with red meat dishes and game-based preparations, where the structure and tannic profile balance the succulence of the food. It also matches well with aged cheeses, thanks to its natural ability to support intense flavors. Served alongside roasts, stews, or a classic beef steak, it enhances the food’s aromas and brings out its wealth of black fruit and spicy nuances.
When to serve
This wine is ideal for important dinners where you want to bring intensity and structure to the table, especially with menus featuring succulent meats or flavorful cheeses. Its mature tannic texture makes it a valuable choice for those who love a lingering sip that can stand up to bold dishes. Thanks to its leather and spice notes, it's perfect for convivial occasions, offering a satisfying tasting experience and a long, rich finish.
