Description

Prima La Encina by Portia is an intense and structured red wine from Ribera del Duero, made exclusively with Tempranillo grapes from the single vineyard Pago La Encina, located at an altitude of 860 meters. The vines, over 30 years old, grow on clay-limestone soils with good water retention capacity and are south-facing, an ideal condition for optimal ripening. The harvest is carried out manually in crates, ensuring meticulous selection in the vineyard.

Vinification begins with a double manual selection of the bunches, followed by fermentation in small vats with thermal control for precise aromatic extraction. Malolactic fermentation takes place in new French oak barrels, helping to define the wine’s structure and complexity. The subsequent 16-month aging takes place in the same barrels with medium and medium-high toasting, without artificial stabilization.

In the glass, it presents an intense ruby red color. The aromatic profile is dominated by ripe black fruits, spices, aromatic herbs, and hints of licorice. On the palate, it is full-bodied and elegant, with well-presented tannins, enveloping fruit, and a slight sweetness that reflects the maturity of the vineyard. The finish is long and spicy, with pleasant hints of dark chocolate.

Perfect when paired with grilled lamb, veal chops, roasts, braised dishes, osso buco, steak with chimichurri sauce, aged cheeses, and salted chocolate.
