Description
What kind of wine
Hacienda Pradologar by Marqués de Vargas is a red wine from Rioja made from a blend of Tempranillo and Mazuelo. It is characterized by its structure and complexity, offering a profile suitable for those seeking depth and aging potential in the bottle. Fermentation occurs with native yeasts, followed by 23 months of aging in new French oak barrels, which contribute to an elegant and full style.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the “La Victoria” vineyard in the central area of Rioja Alta. The soils, rich in gravel, stones, and fine calcareous earths, promote drainage and give the wine intensity and complexity. The area boasts a long winegrowing tradition.
How it is produced
The hand harvest in crates allows for the selection of the best bunches, followed by rapid cooling to preserve freshness. After destemming, maceration takes place in tanks suited to the soil type, followed by fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The 23-month aging in new French oak barrels enhances the wine’s aromatic complexity and structure.
Tasting notes
A deep ruby red color with garnet highlights. The nose offers notes of ripe red fruits such as plum and dark cherry, with hints of licorice, black pepper, and light toasted and vanilla nuances from barrel aging. The palate shows a full structure, silky tannins, lively acidity, and a long, persistent finish.
Food pairings
Hacienda Pradologar pairs well with roast red meats, braised dishes, and game, thanks to its structure and polished tannins. Excellent with Riojan-style lamb stew or red wine braised meat. Among aged cheeses, it complements a mature pecorino or Manchego. For a regional pairing, try traditional cordero al chilindrón.
When to serve it
This wine is crafted for extended aging and can evolve in the bottle for many years, maintaining a balance between tannins and acidity. It is already harmonious after a few years of aging. Serve it at 16–18 °C to appreciate its complexity and development.
