Description
What kind of wine is it
Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé from Château Monbousquet is a Bordeaux red wine made from Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The winemaking process takes place in stainless steel at controlled temperatures, and the extended aging in new oak barrels defines a rich and concentrated style, with a palate centered on ripe fruit and spices. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied, with a clear structure that supports progression without weighing it down.
Where it comes from
Monbousquet is produced to the southwest of the city of Saint-Émilion, in an area where the variability of the soils is part of the wine’s identity. The estate covers 32 hectares and includes plots on sandy, clayey, and gravelly soils, as well as combinations of these. This diversity contributes to a profile in which fruit and concentration are interwoven in a structural tapestry consistent with its origin.
How it is produced
The Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are handpicked from vines with an average age of 38 years. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats at controlled temperatures to precisely manage extraction and aromatic definition. Aging continues for 18–24 months in new oak barrels, with racking every three months, progressively integrating the spicy contribution of the wood.
Tasting notes
Visually, it has a ruby red color. On the nose it opens with ripe cherries, fig jam, cloves, and other spices, offering a rich and concentrated profile. On the palate it is medium-bodied, with prominent fruit and a structure that supports the sip; the finish maintains continuity between the fruity and spicy components, without losing definition.
Food pairings
It naturally pairs with red meats such as beef and lamb, especially in roasted or grilled preparations, where structure and fruit complement the succulence. It also pairs well with game-based dishes, particularly venison and roe deer, thanks to its concentration and spicy profile.
When to serve
This is a red wine to choose when a rich and concentrated profile is desired, whilst still maintaining a medium body, suitable for important main courses. It finds the ideal context during cooler seasons, especially with red meat and game. Before serving, a brief aeration helps to highlight notes of ripe fruit and spices, making the wine more harmonious on the palate.
