Description
What kind of wine is it
Palagetto’s Merlot Uno di Quattro is a red wine produced in San Gimignano exclusively from Merlot grapes. It shows a bright ruby red color that with aging tends toward garnet. The profile is rich and full-bodied, with a structure designed to accompany flavorful dishes.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from vineyards around fifteen years old in the municipality of San Gimignano, in the province of Siena. The vineyards lie at an altitude between 380 and 420 meters above sea level. Elevation and hillside exposure help shape the wine’s character. Here Merlot takes on a Tuscan expression, with generous fruit and good persistence.
How it is made
The harvest is manual and the grapes are picked into crates. At the winery, a further selection ensures only the best clusters are chosen. Red fermentation takes place in small concrete tanks, with 15–18 days of skin maceration, frequent pump-overs and three délestage. The wine ages for 36 months in French oak barriques, partly new, and then rests in bottle for at least six months before release.
Tasting notes
Visually it is ruby red and bright. The nose recalls typical wild berries, both red and black. On the palate it is rich and full-bodied, with jammy notes and a long finish of great persistence. The structure suggests good aging potential.
What to pair it with
It’s a wine for the most flavorful and complex dishes of Tuscan cuisine. It pairs well with game and steak, where the structure supports the meat’s savory character. It also works with well-aged cheeses, which find a fine counterpoint in its roundness.
When to serve it
It’s suited to important meals based on meat, where a full-bodied, persistent red is called for. Serve in a large, wide-bowled glass, opening the bottle a little in advance to let the fruit emerge. Thanks to its structure, it can also be cellared for a few years.
