Description

What kind of wine is it

Sherazade by Donnafugata is a Sicilian red wine made from Nero d'Avola grapes. Maturation in steel and bottle ensures a crisp, straightforward style. Full and fresh on the palate, it offers a delicate tannic weave and a fruity and spicy profile. Its balance makes it ideal for everyday dining, as it expresses its terroir through an extremely pleasant drinkability.

Where it comes from

It originates from the Tenuta di Contessa Entellina, in south-western Sicily within the territory of Sicily. The Mediterranean context favors consistent ripening and allows for a pure expression of the varietal. This estate is part of a winegrowing area managed to enhance the fragrance of the fruit. The result is a wine with a clear territorial personality, in tune with the island's climate.

How it is produced

The grapes are hand-harvested during the first ten days of September. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures, with maceration on the skins for about six to eight days, in order to gently extract color and tannins. After malolactic fermentation, the wine rests for two months in steel, followed by five months of aging in bottle, thus maintaining an extremely clean and linear technical profile.

Tasting notes

To the eye it displays a bright ruby red color with violet highlights. The nose releases vibrant scents of cherry and red plum, entwined with notes of black pepper. On the palate it is full and fresh, supported by a soft tannic structure that enhances its smoothness. The balanced finish maintains a pleasant persistence in line with the fruity sensations perceived.

Food pairings

Thanks to its freshness, perfectly suited to support savory flavors, it matches perfectly with fish soups. It is also excellent next to pizza, especially when topped with tomato. Its harmony between fruit and acidity highlights a good plate of spaghetti with tomato sauce. In regional cuisine, it goes beautifully with the traditional pasta alla Norma, where eggplant enhances the wine without overpowering it.

When to serve it

Sherazade is meant to be enjoyed with absolute ease, ideal when you're looking for a wine with good structure but immediate drinkability. Its time in steel makes it ready to uncork at informal gatherings or Mediterranean cuisine dinners. It delivers best when the aim is a spot-on and rewarding pairing, without the need for prolonged waiting. Its freshness always invites relaxed, convivial enjoyment.
