Description

What kind of wine is it

Lighea by Donnafugata is a white wine from Sicily made from Zibibbo grapes, carefully cultivated in the southwestern area of the region and on the island of Pantelleria. Characterized by a fresh and elegant style, it stands out for its clear floral aromatic profile and a precise mineral vein. This white wine distinguishes itself with an immediate and well-defined expression, fully enhancing seafood dishes through a citrusy balance that makes it highly enjoyable to drink.

Where does it come from

The grapes come from vineyards managed by Donnafugata, located between the southwestern area of Sicily and the insular dimension of Pantelleria. The harvest focuses on the coolest plots—an essential choice for preserving the aromatic fragrance and ensuring a clear and lively taste. The connection to this territory is also reflected in the wine's name, a tribute to the mermaid Lighea described in the famous story by Tomasi di Lampedusa.

How is it made

The production process begins with the picking and careful selection of Zibibbo bunches in September. This is followed by fermentation at a controlled temperature, a technique aimed at maximizing aromatic clarity and varietal purity. After fermentation, the wine rests for a few months in steel tanks before bottling. This aging process maintains its natural freshness and ensures a consistent sip.

Tasting notes

On the eye, it shows a bright straw yellow color, embellished with slight greenish highlights. The nose reveals elegant floral notes of orange blossom, rose, and geranium, well intertwined with citrus scents. On the palate it is particularly smooth, sustained by a marked sapidity that gives it structure and balances each sip. The tasting experience ends with a harmonious finish, marked by a pleasant and lasting fruity sensation.

Food pairings

This white wine perfectly accompanies seafood-based dishes and proves ideal with blue fish and light fried foods. Its pronounced savory component effectively cleanses the palate and balances out intense flavors. It celebrates Sicilian culinary tradition, consistently pairing with dishes that combine fresh catch and citrus, such as the classic pasta con le sarde.

When to serve it

Ideal to serve for a cheerful aperitif, this wine offers an immediate aromatic character suitable for many informal occasions. The balanced aging in steel allows it to express its best during its youthful, fragrant stage. It shows great versatility from the start of a meal to dinners centered around seafood, and is also a great choice during the warm season thanks to its refreshing citrusy profile.
