Description
Il Muffato from the Canneto estate is produced on the western hills of Montepulciano, near the church of San Biagio. The estate was purchased in 1987 by a group of friends from Zurich, admirers of Montepulciano wines, who over the years built a new winery and acquired new equipment. The estate covers 30 hectares of vineyards, of which 16 are dedicated to producing Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.
Il Muffato is made from a blend of Malvasia, Riesling, Traminer, and Petit Manseng grapes, harvested at the beginning of December when the berries are covered with noble rot. After being pressed, the grapes ferment with selected yeasts at a controlled temperature, then age for 14 months in Allier French oak barriques. This is followed by a minimum of 6 months of bottle aging.
Golden yellow in color, the wine reveals aromas of candied fruit, honey, and tropical fruits on the nose. On the palate, it is warm and fairly fresh, finishing with a long taste of toasted almonds.
It pairs wonderfully with blue cheeses and dry pastries.
