Toscana IGT Tignanello 2018 Marchesi Antinori
Description
The Toscana Rosso Tenuta Tignanello dei Marchesi Antinori was born in the vineyard of the same name located in the Chianti Classico area.
It is mainly produced with Sangiovese grapes and with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, harvested and selected in the period from 20 September to 10 October. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in oak barrels and gives greater finesse and fragrance to the tannins. Subsequently the wine is aged in French and Hungarian oak barrels for a period of about 12-14 months, then the different batches, vinified separately according to the variety, are assembled to create the final blend.
The 2018 vintage
The 2018 season in Chianti Classico opened with a rather regular winter in both temperatures and rainfall; despite these climatic conditions, the vineyards began their budding activity one week earlier than the historical average of the territory. The spring period, and in particular May, was characterized by frequent rains with temperatures slightly lower than usual, while the months of June and July were dry and quite hot, without however ever experiencing extreme conditions. A few rains in August and a dry and windy period in September and October allowed the grapes to ripen in an ideal way, guaranteeing a good sugar content and excellent polyphenolic ripeness. The harvest began around September 20 for the Sangiovese and ended on October 12 with the Cabernet harvest.
With an intense and deep ruby red color, Tignanello 2018 strikes the nose for its complexity: notes of ripe red fruit, black cherry, sour cherry and black currant, combine with sweet hints of vanilla, mint and delicate sensations of white pepper and myrtle. On the palate it is rich and balanced: the soft and silky tannins are supported by an excellent freshness capable of giving length, elegance and gustatory persistence.
Perfect to combine with spaghetti with meat sauce and risotto with truffles and delicate mushrooms, it is ideal to accompany aged cheeses and second courses of game.
