Description
What kind of wine it is
The Griccia is a red wine from the Terra winery, made from Sangiovese grapes with the addition of Merlot. It shows a bright ruby-red color and an immediate fruit-forward profile, supported by a balanced tannic structure. Its style combines the lively character typical of Sangiovese with the softness brought by Merlot. It is a wine suited both to everyday meals and to more polished convivial occasions.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from a vineyard of about four hectares located in the Todi area, in Umbria, at an altitude of around three hundred and fifty meters above sea level, on silty-clay soil. The south-facing exposure promotes steady ripening of the grapes. The vines, trained to spur-pruned cordon, are between fifteen and twenty years old. This soil-and-climate context gives the wine its distinct sense of place.
How it is made
The harvest of Sangiovese generally takes place at the end of September. The grapes undergo a maceration of ten to twelve days, with pump-overs and punch-downs to encourage the extraction of color and structure. Alcoholic fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in stainless-steel tanks. This is followed by a maturation phase at controlled temperature and an overall aging of eight to ten months in steel, before bottling in July.
Tasting notes
To the eye, the wine shows a bright ruby red color. On the nose, the aromatic profile is fruity, with distinctive notes of cherry. On the palate it is soft and balanced, with a tannic texture that is present yet well integrated. The sip confirms the harmony between nose and palate, with a pleasantly fruity finish.
Food pairing
This wine pairs well with charcuterie and cheeses, where its tannic texture balances the richness of the fat. It also makes an excellent match with meat main courses, particularly savory preparations. It is a versatile choice for convivial, rustic-leaning meals, able to accompany different courses without becoming intrusive.
When to serve it
It is advisable to serve this wine at a temperature between 16 and 18 °C, so as to enhance its structure and fruit profile, highlighting the tannic component without weighing it down. It suits convivial occasions featuring charcuterie, cheeses or meat mains. It is an apt choice to accompany an entire meal in more informal settings.
