Description
What kind of wine it is
Petruna in Anfora by Il Borro is a red wine from Sangiovese grapes, vinified in clay amphorae. This ancient method allows the variety to express itself in its purest essence. The result is a balanced and surprisingly fresh red, with a straightforward and distinctive style.
Where it comes from
It is born on the Il Borro estate, in San Giustino Valdarno, in the province of Arezzo, in the Valdarno di Sopra area in Tuscany. Here Sangiovese finds an environment suited to expressing freshness and depth. The wine is a tribute to Tuscan wine culture and its most representative grape.
How it is made
The grapes are hand-harvested and ferment in clay amphorae, with several manual punch-downs each day. The wine remains in maceration on the skins in the amphora for eleven months. This is followed by bottle aging for twelve months. The amphora does not impart aromas to the wine and preserves its varietal character, with a distinctive mineral note.
Tasting notes
In appearance it is intense ruby red and very clear. The nose is distinctly defined, with notes of ripe red fruit and mineral aromas deriving from aging in amphora. The palate is firm, with balanced tannins and an elegant, fresh sip.
Food pairings
It pairs well with Tuscan meat-based dishes, such as roasts and braises. It is also excellent with bread soups and legume soups, as well as with aged cheeses and blue cheeses.
When to serve it
A red suited to lunches and dinners of Tuscan cuisine and bold flavors, but also to a simpler table of soups and cheeses. Best appreciated in a large-bowled glass, which lets the fruit and mineral note emerge. Its freshness makes it convivial and easy to pair.
