Description
What type of wine it is
Rainoldi's Valtellina Superiore Inferno is a red wine from Nebbiolo grapes grown on mountain terraces. The wine displays structure and complexity, and offers freshness with good potential for ageing. Maturation continues in large oak barrels, enhancing its finesse and depth.
Origin
Valtellina Superiore Inferno comes from the eastern part of the Alta Valtellina, between Montagna in Valtellina, Poggiridenti, and Tresivio, at elevations between 350 and 550 meters. The Alpine climate with significant temperature variations guides a slow and balanced ripening. Well-drained morainic soils give the wine a mineral freshness and aromatic depth tied to the territory.
How it is produced
The Nebbiolo grapes come from the specified vineyards. Ageing continues in large oak barrels for about twenty months, then the wine is blended in steel tanks for two months and rests in bottle in cool cellars for six months, ensuring balance and complexity.
Tasting notes
On appearance, it is a deep ruby red with garnet highlights. The bouquet is refined and layered, with notes of ripe currant, toasted walnut, black pepper, and hints of alpine herbs. On the palate, freshness and harmony combine with well-integrated tannins, displaying good persistence and a savory, slightly spicy finish.
Food pairings
It pairs well with grilled red meats, braised dishes, game such as roe deer and wild boar, and first courses with meat ragù. Among local specialties, it is suited to pizzoccheri or sciatt, traditional Valtellina dishes, which highlight the contrast between the richness of the food and the wine's freshness.
When to serve
The tannic structure and acidic balance allow for consumption in the early years or ageing over time, developing more complex aromas. It is recommended to serve the wine after letting it breathe for better aromatic expression.
