Description
What kind of wine it is
The Vernaccia di San Gimignano Riserva from Guicciardini Strozzi is a still white wine that focuses on elegance, freshness and structure. It is made from pure Vernaccia di San Gimignano and combines the grape’s typical vibrancy with the complexity conferred by long ageing. It’s a white that rewards patience and thoughtful drinking.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from a historic vineyard of Guicciardini Strozzi in San Gimignano, in Tuscany, the variety’s heartland. Harvesting is manual and extends over at least two weeks, so that each micro-parcel is picked at the right time. The result is a wine that expresses the character of its vineyard.
How it is made
Each micro-parcel is selected and vinified separately. After temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation, the wines are assessed and blended before ageing. Maturation continues for at least eleven months in oak, followed by a few months of bottle rest. This path develops secondary and tertiary aromas alongside the varietal nuances, without losing the wine’s vibrancy.
Tasting notes
The profile is that of a Vernaccia with a complex character, with the typical varietal nuances enriched by secondary and tertiary aromas. On the palate it is fresh, structured and elegant, with a vibrant acidity and a pronounced salinity that support the sip. Oak ageing adds depth and pleasure to the drink.
Food pairings
It pairs well with structured fish dishes, shellfish and risottos. It’s also a good match for white meats, fish soups and medium-aged cheeses. Its salinity and acidity also accompany vegetable-based first courses and baked dishes.
When to serve it
It’s a Riserva suited to important dinners and meals where the wine takes center stage. Serve in a large white-wine glass to bring out its complexity, and once opened it benefits from a few minutes of air. It’s also a good gift idea for those who appreciate Vernaccia and long-aged whites.
