Château de Fargues
Château de Fargues is a Sauternes estate that has belonged to the Lur Saluces family of marquises since 1472. The first vintage of Fargues was produced in 1943: for this reason the wine is not part of the 1855 classification and is considered a great "unclassifiable" wine.
The estate is led by Philippe de Lur Saluces, with François Amirault in charge of operations. The vineyard extends over 21 hectares on clay-gravel soils and is planted with Sémillon (80%) and Sauvignon (20%).
The grapes are harvested in several passes, selecting the berries affected by noble rot, and the wine ages for 30 months in barriques, 40% of which are new. Production is around 20,000 bottles.
A member of the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux, Château de Fargues is a rare Sauternes with remarkable aging potential.
