Aglianico in the Vulture area

Aglianico del Vulture is one of the most important denominations in Southern Italy, whose production area includes the entire territory that extends from the municipality of Rionero di Vulture to the localities of Riparossa and Macchia in the municipality of Atella, in Basilicata.
It has existed since 1971 as a DOC and obtained DOCG recognition in 2010.
In this production area the “Aglianico del Vulture” wine is born, produced exclusively with Aglianico grapes, a native red grape variety.
The production area of Aglianico enjoys a continental climate, with cold winters, sunny summers, with significant temperature variations between day and night.
In Basilicata, Aglianico has found its place of choice on soils rich in minerals generated by the ancient extinct volcano of the Vùlture.
The Aglianico vine produces grapes with a rich and elegant aromatic profile, perfect for making great wines. It is a grape that produces wines with an important tannic texture and high base acidity. Due to these characteristics, in youth the wines are rather rough and angular and only after a long refinement, preferably in wood, do they reach the best balance and a pleasant harmony.

Alongside the traditional red vinification, in the Vulture production area, there are also fresh and enveloping white wines, obtained from the white vinification of the Aglianico grape such as the Strapellum Basilicata the White Nibbio of Cantine di Palma and fresh and savory rosé wines such as Basilicata Rosato by Re Manfredi.
