International Merlot Day
Among the most loved Bordeaux grapes in the world
Originally from Bordeaux , the area where some of the most prestigious wines are born, Merlot is a black grape variety widespread internationally but originating from the French region of Bordeaux. Merlot was born in the Bordeaux area from a spontaneous cross between Cabernet Franc and Magdalene Noir de Charentes. Together with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc it forms perhaps the most famous blend of black grapes, the Bordeaux blend .
In the Médoc it is a complementary grape to Cabernet Sauvignon, while in the Saint-Emilion area it is the most cultivated vine and often offered in purity, especially in the Pomerol area.
