Travaglino
Travaglino is the oldest sparkling wine reality in the Oltrepò Pavese, whose name would seem to be inspired by Johannis de Travalino, witness of a deed of concession of the castle of Cavaglino and the surrounding lands dating back to the early Middle Ages, in 1111. In 1868, the knight Vincenzo Comi acquires the Villa di Travaglino, the first nucleus of the estate, transformed by his nephew into a wine cellar. Subsequently, the first zoning studies were carried out and the production systems were updated. Today the fifth generation of the Comi family, Cristina and Alessandro Cerri Comi, dedicate all their efforts to the main vines, Pinot Noir in various variations and Riesling Renano.
Calvignano, on the slopes of Monte Cérésino, in the central western part of the Oltrepò Pavese, the clayey-limestone soils resting on marl and sandstone rich in microelements and a microclimate marked by a good temperature range between day and night, represent a ideal for these varieties, which in this area develop healthy, crunchy grapes with excellent acidity, allowing for the creation of unique expressions. Live wines, authoritative, recognizable, always territorial, elegant, never banal, which enhance finesse and pleasantness and which tell the story of their origins.
