Description

What kind of wine it is

Aglianico del Vulture Grifalco by Grifalco is a still red wine made from 100% Aglianico grown in the Vulture area of Basilicata. The style develops through temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel and aging in second-fill French oak barrels, yielding a tidy, well-defined profile with present tannins and clearly perceptible freshness.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from Grifalco’s vineyards located in the municipalities of Venosa, Maschito and Forenza, in the heart of the Vulture area in Basilicata. This provenance shapes the wine’s identity and guides its character, maintaining a recognizable, consistent imprint in the glass.

How it is made

Harvesting is done by hand with selection in the vineyard, followed by a second sorting in the cellar using linear destemming, to remove green parts and work only with ripe berries. After gentle crush-destemming, fermentation takes place in stainless steel at controlled temperature without exceeding 28 °C, with about ten days of maceration on the skins. After racking, the wine ages on fine lees in second-fill French oak barriques and tonneaux for between 6 and 12 months, undergoes malolactic fermentation, then stabilizes in steel, is bottled, and completes at least six months of bottle aging.

Tasting notes

In the glass it shows a deep ruby red color. The nose opens on a mineral vein of graphite, followed by cocoa, coffee and hints of embers, with nuances of red fruit and black pepper. On the palate it is balanced and enveloping, with medium structure, supple tannins and lively acidity that supports length and depth.

Food pairing

At the table it pairs naturally with meats and cheeses, enhancing the richness of dishes thanks to a balanced sip backed by freshness and well-present tannins. The toasted and spicy undertones in the background complement flavorful preparations without overshadowing the dish’s aromas.

When to serve it

This is a red suited to the table and convivial occasions, when you want a wine with good presence yet easy drinking. If opened young, a short time in the glass helps the toastier notes unwind and makes the profile even more harmonious, keeping freshness and the tannic weave at the center.
