Description
What kind of wine is it
Südtirol - Alto Adige Pinot Nero Angra by Nals Margreid is a red wine made from Pinot Noir grapes grown in Alto Adige. It displays an elegant and harmonious style, with medium structure, smooth tannins and lively freshness. Fermentation takes place in steel with gentle pumping over, then the wine matures for seven months in wooden barrels, thus acquiring a versatile profile suitable for immediate consumption as well as for brief ageing.
Where it comes from
Pinot Nero Angra comes from south-west-facing vineyards in Alto Adige at 350 to 450 metres altitude. The south-westerly aspect promotes good grape ripening; both aspect and altitude help preserve acidity and varietal aromas, while the balance between sunlight and ventilation leads to even ripening and the development of fruity and spicy notes.
How it is made
The grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness and destemmed before fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel. Gentle pumping over is carried out to extract colour and balanced tannins. Malolactic fermentation follows, and the wine is aged for seven months in wooden barrels.
Tasting notes
In the glass, it has a clear, medium-intensity ruby red colour with slightly garnet highlights. The nose reveals raspberry, cherry, and black cherry, with hints of white pepper and clove. The palate is fresh and harmonious, the savouriness is balanced and the tannins are silky. The finish echoes small red fruits and lingers with floral and spicy notes.
Food pairings
This Pinot Nero pairs well with Italian and Tyrolean cuisine. Its freshness and soft tannins complement pasta alla genovese, balancing the onion and basil sauce. It also works with flavoursome mains such as Roman-style calf’s liver, creating an interesting contrast. Excellent with sautéed mushrooms and semi-soft cheeses like Taleggio.
When to serve it
It is recommended to serve Pinot Nero Angra at 16-18 °C in large glasses to enhance its bouquet and structure. Ready to drink, it can be kept in the cellar for a few years, developing further spicy nuances and complexity. Suitable as an all-purpose wine for mild seasons or informal dinners, it offers a harmonious and pleasant experience.
