Description

What kind of wine is it?

Bertani 's Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a still red wine produced in the historic Valpolicella region. Made from a blend of Corvina Veronese and Rondinella, it stands out for its complex structure and aging potential. Temperature-controlled fermentation and aging in Slavonian oak barrels impart a full, velvety texture, with ripe tannins and a balance between richness and freshness. Its elegant and refined profile is perfect for those seeking a wine with character and depth.

Where does it come from?

This Amarone is produced on the Villa Novare Estate, in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica region, nestled in the hills near Verona. The temperate climate and wide temperature ranges, combined with the influence of the Alps and Lake Garda, favor a slow ripening of the grapes. The moraine soils , rich in clay and limestone, provide a mineral component that is reflected in the wine's aromatic complexity. The vineyards' altitude, between 200 and 350 meters, enhances finesse and depth, while the area's history, linked to ancient drying techniques, adds cultural value to the production.

How it is produced

The grapes are harvested by hand in the second week of September, selecting only the finest bunches for drying. The grapes are laid out on racks in the drying rooms, where they remain until they reach the right sugar concentration. After drying, a long maceration and fermentation at a controlled temperature of 18°C (64°F) follow for approximately 50 days. The wine is aged in Slavonian oak barrels for six years, then aged in bottle for twelve months, developing complexity and harmony.

Tasting notes

The wine displays a deep red color with garnet highlights. On the nose, aromas of plum, cherry, and black cherry emerge, enriched with notes of dried fruit , green tea, and licorice. On the palate, it offers a full structure, with smooth tannins and a fresh acidity that balances the richness. The finish is long and persistent, with aromas of vanilla and sweet tobacco, for an Amarone della Valpolicella Classico with a restrained personality.

What does it pair with?

Bertani's Amarone della Valpolicella Classico pairs perfectly with red meats and game, such as braised wild boar or stewed venison. It's also ideal with aged cheeses like Parmigiano Reggiano or Tuscan pecorino. In regional cuisine, it enhances dishes like risotto all'Amarone, whether used in cooking or served alongside. Its structure and freshness lend themselves to flavorful, bold dishes, offering a complete gastronomic experience.

When to serve it

Thanks to its structure and long aging, this Amarone lends itself to medium- to long-term aging. It is recommended to taste it after at least five years to appreciate the full integration of the tannins and the aromatic complexity. It maintains its best form between ten and fifteen years, when it reaches its maximum depth of flavor . While it can be enjoyable young, time enhances its characteristics and offers an increasingly rich and layered tasting experience.
