Description
What kind of wine is it
Auxey-Duresses Premier Cru by Comte Armand is a red wine from the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy made from Pinot Noir. This style offers freshness and structure, with integrated tannins and a pronounced mineral character. Fermentation takes place in wooden vats with indigenous yeasts, and the subsequent maturation in oak gives the wine a defined profile, suited both for immediate enjoyment and for ageing in the bottle.
Where does it come from
The Auxey-Duresses appellation is located in Burgundy, within the Côte de Beaune. Comte Armand selects a south-facing plot in the "Les Argillas" area, on particularly calcareous soil that drives the wine toward a clear minerality and a well-defined texture. The vines have an average age of 40 years and are cultivated according to organic and biodynamic principles.
How is it made
After harvesting, the grapes undergo total destemming. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts in wooden vats, to achieve a linear varietal expression and a progressive building of structure. This is followed by 18 months of aging in oak barrels, intended to integrate the tannic texture and maintain the balance between body, freshness, and aromatic precision.
Tasting notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby red color. On the nose, there are notes of small red and black berries, with hints of currant and blackberry, followed by subtle spices. The palate is intense and rich, with well-integrated tannins providing a smooth and enveloping sensation; the progression retains freshness and a mineral aspect consistent with its calcareous soil, culminating in a clean finish.
Food pairing
At the table, it pairs well with meat dishes where succulence and spiciness combine with moderated structure. It is recommended with roast lamb and duck confit, pairings that match the intensity and soft tannins without overpowering the freshness and precision of the fruit.
When to serve
Best enjoyed young for its fruit clarity and freshness, while already showing a complete structure. The oak maturation and integrated tannins provide a good ability to age in bottle for up to ten years. It is an ideal choice when seeking a precise Burgundy red, capable of accompanying a meat dinner while maintaining balance.
