Description
What kind of wine is it?
Barbaresco Riserva Rio Sordo by Produttori del Barbaresco is a red wine produced in the Langhe region of Piedmont, made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes. It stands out for its structured and precise style, characterized by a well-defined tannin and a balanced progression on the palate. The lengthy vinification process enriches the wine’s profile, giving it a complex aromatic texture and making it particularly suited for long aging.
Where does it come from?
This wine is born in the Rio Sordo area, a highly renowned zone within the Barbaresco region. The vineyards are planted on clay-limestone soils enriched with sandy veins, benefiting from a south-west exposure that ensures regular and optimal ripening of the grapes. This specific combination of territory gives the wine a solid structure while preserving the grape variety’s aromatic definition.
How is it produced?
Vinification involves fermentation in steel at 30°C for 28 days, followed by extended maceration on the skins to optimally extract color and aromatic components. The wine is then aged for 30 months in oak barrels, a crucial phase for integrating the tannic structure and stabilizing the wine. This process ends with an additional 12 months of refinement in bottle, essential to define the precise length on the palate.
Tasting notes
The wine shows a bright ruby red color in the glass. On the nose, it offers an intriguing bouquet that harmoniously blends fruity and spicy notes, a direct result of the long extraction and aging in wood. On the palate, it reveals a medium body, upheld by silky and balanced tannins that lead to a clear, ever-intensifying, and persistent finish.
Food pairings
Its smooth tannic structure makes it the perfect match for rich dishes, red meats, and game. In the Piedmontese tradition, it enhances the intense flavors of roasts and braised meats, forming a perfect pairing with slow-cooked meat dishes. It is also an excellent choice for pairing with boards of aged cheeses, offering an aromatic counterpoint that best balances hearty preparations.
When to serve it
It is the ideal label for important lunches and structured dinners based on meat, but is also perfectly suited for focused tasting sessions. Thanks to its maturation in wood and further refinement in glass, it has excellent aging potential, offering a drinking window that stretches over several years if stored in optimal conditions. Served at the right temperature, it best showcases its precise tannins and expressive consistency.
