Description
What kind of wine it is
Barbera d’Alba Superiore by Josetta Saffirio is a red wine made from Barbera grapes grown in the Langhe region of Piedmont, in the area of Monforte d’Alba. The winemaking process involves temperature-controlled fermentation and maceration on the skins, followed by a period of maturation in wood. The result is a defined profile, with freshness and structure in balance, characterized by precision and expressive clarity.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the subzone of Castelletto, in the municipality of Monforte d’Alba, within the Barbera d’Alba area. The vineyard is situated on soil composed of silt, clay, and sand in balanced proportions, rich in mineral salts. This pedological context helps to define a recognizable style consistent with the hilly origin of the Langhe.
How it is produced
Harvesting is manual, and the grapes are gently pressed to obtain the must. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature of 30–32°C, followed by 8–10 days of maceration on the skins, a crucial phase for color and structure. After fermentation, the wine matures in wooden barrels for about 12 months, completing the aging with a measured influence from the container.
Tasting notes
In the glass, it shows a purple red color with garnet reflections. On the nose, it is vivid and precise, with clear hints of blackcurrant. On the palate, the sip is balanced, with a distinctly recognizable freshness that merges with a structured and orderly body, maintaining a clear progression in taste.
Pairings
At the table, it pairs naturally with first courses featuring rich sauces and with red meat main courses. The balance between freshness and body makes it suitable for dishes of good intensity, where the succulent component and richness of the seasoning find an accurate and continuous drinking companion.
When to serve it
It is recommended when a red wine with good presence at the table is desired, ideal for lunches and dinners with structured dishes. The combination of structure and freshness makes it especially suitable for the cooler seasons and on occasions when a well-defined and smooth wine is sought. The maturation in wood completes its profile, allowing it to be enjoyed slowly, letting it breathe in the glass.
