Description
What type of wine it is
Barolo del Comune di Barolo Marchesi di Barolo is a red wine from the Langhe, produced from Nebbiolo grapes grown within the municipality of Barolo. Interpreted according to ancient local traditions, it offers an elegant and harmonious style, supported by extremely fine tannins and a long finish. The vinification involves maceration on the skins and aging in French oak barriques, followed by large Slavonian oak barrels for 36 months, resulting in a structured and complex profile.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from a selection of estate vineyards located in the Cannubi, Sarmassa, and Costa di Rose crus, situated in the municipality of Barolo, in the Langhe. The vineyards are planted on compact calcareous-clay marl soils, with the presence of sand and silt, elements that help outline a refined and layered expression. Originating from these crus highlights a direct connection to an area historically central for Barolo.
How it is made
After selecting grapes from the estate’s best vineyards, classical vinification follows with maceration on the skins. After fermentation, the wine matures in French oak barriques and continues its aging for 36 months in large Slavonian oak casks. This maturation process accompanies the aromatic integration and definition of the texture, maintaining balance and finesse in the tannins.
Tasting notes
In the glass, it displays a garnet red colour. The bouquet is clear and precise, with delicate spicy aromas, hints of dried rose petals, red fruits, and undertones of forest floor. On the palate, it is harmonious and elegant, with extremely fine tannins supporting the structure without stiffening the progression. The finish is impressive, echoing the nuances detected on the nose.
Food pairings
It pairs with intensely flavoured meat dishes that can match the structure and extremely fine tannins of the wine. The technical sheet suggests beef stew, braised meats, and game—pairings where slow-cooked preparations and rich sauces enhance the wine's harmony and persistence, mirroring the spicy and woodland notes perceived on the nose.
When to serve it
This is a red wine to choose when looking for structure, precision, and elegance—perfect for an important meal and complex meat dishes. The aging in barriques and subsequent 36 months in large Slavonian oak casks make it suitable for cellaring, thanks to its fine tannic texture and persistence that supports evolution. It is ideal for occasions where you want to let the bouquet and flavour progression shine.
