Description
What kind of wine it is
Barolo Riserva Bussia Soprana Vigna Mondoca by Oddero is a red wine made exclusively from Nebbiolo grown in Monforte d’Alba, in Piedmont. It is vinified in stainless steel with an extended maceration, then ages for a long time in oak barrels and in the bottle. The result is a structured and balanced style, with fine tannins and a natural predisposition for ageing over time.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from vineyards located in the municipality of Monforte d’Alba, in the Cuneo area, within the Barolo region and the Bussia Soprana designation. The Langhe environment encourages gradual ripening and helps preserve aromatic finesse and structure. Sourcing from Vigna Mondoca defines a coherent and recognizable profile, ideal for maturation.
How it is produced
The harvest is manual, with careful selection of the bunches in the first ten days of October. After very gentle crushing, the must ferments in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature of 28–29 °C, with a maceration on the skins of about 30 days. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matures for 36 months in oak barrels and completes the process with a further 2 years in the bottle.
Tasting notes
In the glass it displays an intense ruby red with hints of garnet. The nose reveals small red fruits and balsamic notes, followed by Mediterranean scrub and dried rose, evolving towards hints of goudron. On the palate, it is powerful yet measured, with fine, well-integrated tannins and a long, complex finish.
What it pairs with
It pairs effortlessly with game and braised meats, supporting slow-cooked dishes with intense aromatic components. It is also suitable with starters and typical dishes from Piedmont cuisine, where its structure complements rich flavors and substantial textures. Excellent with Barolo-braised beef and tajarin with meat ragù.
When to serve it
This is a significant red wine, also suitable as a meditation wine, ideal for those seeking a profound and well-defined profile to accompany a complete meal. The long ageing in barrel and bottle supports its suitability for ageing. Serve in a large glass, giving it time to breathe so as to highlight its aromas and tannic texture during tasting.
