What Kind of Wine It Is
Barolo di Prunotto is a red wine produced in Piedmont from 100% Nebbiolo grapes. Originating from the Alba area, nestled among the hills of Langhe and Roero, it stands out for its full and velvety style. The long maturation in wood helps to define its robust structure, delivering a balanced sip and pronounced aromatic complexity before resting in the bottle.
Where It Comes From
This wine is crafted on the estate located in Alba, on a gentle plain surrounded by the vineyards of the Langhe and Roero regions. The production area develops within a landscape with a deep winemaking vocation. This specific geographical location is fundamental to defining the wine’s identity and the structured profile that characterizes the local production.
How It Is Produced
The vinification of the Nebbiolo involves a maceration on the skins for fifteen days at a controlled maximum temperature of 30°C. After malolactic fermentation, the wine ages for twenty-four months in French oak barrels and, to a lesser extent, in second-use barriques. The process is completed with a further twelve months of rest in the Prunotto cellars, allowing the wine to complete its evolution.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it presents a garnet red color. The bouquet is broad and complex, enriched by characteristic violet notes and hints of undergrowth. On the palate, it offers a velvety and balanced sip, supported by a pleasant roundness. Overall, it expresses great body, confirming a deep and very well-structured flavor profile.
Food Pairings
Thanks to its strong presence on the palate, it pairs perfectly with hearty first courses served with meat ragout. It pairs consistently with red meats and enhances slow-cooked dishes such as roasts and game. Its complex flavor profile supports concentrated sauces and makes it the ideal companion to elevate the most flavorful and succulent dishes.
When to Serve
It is the ideal choice to accompany important lunches and dinners, particularly those focused on elaborate meat-based menus. The long aging in the estate’s cellars makes it a wine to savor slowly, to fully appreciate every nuance. It is perfect for occasions when a well-defined profile is desired, capable of concluding with an elegant and harmonious finish.
