Description
What kind of wine is it?
Faraona by Descendientes de Jose Palacios is a red wine from Bierzo made exclusively from Mencía. Grown in the Corullón vineyards, it interprets the territory with a defined character, supported by wood vinification that brings precision and depth to the palate.
Where does it come from?
It originates in Spain’s Bierzo region, specifically from the Corullón area. The vines are cultivated on steep slopes of ancient slate, an element reflected in the wine’s character and mineral undertone. Vineyard management follows biodynamic practices to maintain harmony between soil, vine, and human intervention.
How is it produced?
Vinification takes place in oak vats with regular punch-downs and the use of native yeasts. This is followed by a 48-day maceration to achieve full extraction, and malolactic fermentation occurs spontaneously in the same vat. Ageing continues for 11 months in vats and barrels, enhancing the wine’s structure and texture.
Tasting notes
On the nose, it opens with a deep and complex bouquet, offering ripe red fruit, hints of aromatic herbs, and a mineral note linked to the slate soils. The palate is juicy and fresh, with depth and a long finish that accompanies its progression.
Food pairing
Naturally pairs well with game, roasted red meats, and aged cheeses. Its intensity and pronounced freshness make it ideal for flavorful dishes, where the wine can support richness without overwhelming the palate.
When to serve
This is a red wine for those seeking a bold yet smooth expression at the table, especially with meat preparations and robust cheeses. A brief aeration in the glass helps reveal its aromatic profile, while the presence of oak and prolonged maceration define its personality and complexity on the palate.
