Description
What kind of wine is it
Bolgheri di Grattamacco is a Tuscan red wine with a fresh, intense profile that fully expresses the character of its territory. The result of a meticulous blend combining Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Sangiovese, it stands out for a balanced tannic structure and a pronounced savory, saline component. Its structure stems from careful winemaking, featuring spontaneous fermentations followed by targeted aging in barrique and in bottle, thus giving the glass elegance and drinkability.
Where it comes from
This red takes shape at the tenuta di Grattamacco, located in a privileged position on the top of a hill between Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri. The direct overlook of the sea and the particular exposure facing the coast ensure a microclimate ideal for grape ripening. The influence of the Tuscan shoreline is directly reflected in the wine’s identity, giving it an extremely precise aromatic profile together with a deep savory, saline vein that is consistent with the character of the place.
How it is made
The harvest of the Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Sangiovese grapes is carried out exclusively by hand between the end of August and the month of September. In the cellar, spontaneous fermentation takes place partly in open wooden vats and partly in temperature-controlled stainless steel. Once malolactic fermentation is complete, the wine rests for ten months in barriques, then concludes its journey with at least six months of bottle age before release.
Tasting notes
On pouring, the glass reveals a bright ruby red and compact color. The nose offers well-defined aromas of red fruit, with standout notes of marasca cherry and plum, enriched by pleasant mineral undertones. On the palate it is fresh, intense and pleasantly savory, accompanied by balanced tannins that draw a well-ordered structure and guide the sip toward a linear, clean finish, consistent with the sensations perceived on the nose.
Food pairings
Thanks to its marked freshness and measured savoriness, this red is an ideal choice to accompany the entire meal and pairs particularly well with the bold flavors of traditional Tuscan cuisine. Its structure perfectly supports dishes based on flavorful meats and well-structured regional recipes. An ideal match is the traditional bistecca alla fiorentina, and it also sits excellently alongside hearty, land-driven first courses such as pappardelle al cinghiale or a plate of peposo dell’Impruneta.
When to serve it
Its innate drinkability makes it perfect for enriching informal lunches and dinners, as it offers a satisfying and dynamic sip. The careful rest in wood and glass delivers a coherent stylistic expression, ready to be appreciated at the table from the moment of its release. It is the right bottle to share during convivial occasions such as an autumn or winter dinner, or a rich and convivial Sunday lunch.
