Description
Hortense is a Bolgheri Superiore red wine produced by Tenuta Fratini in the territory of Castagneto Carducci, in the hamlet of Donoratico, Tuscany. It is mainly made from Cabernet Franc, blended with Cabernet Sauvignon, grown on sedimentary soils rich in limestones, marbles, claystones, and sandstones, which give the wine structure and elegance.
The winemaking process involves manual harvesting of the grapes and a meticulous selection in the winery. Fermentation takes place in truncated-cone stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, using indigenous yeasts to preserve the local identity. The wine then matures in second and third-passage barriques for 12 months, acquiring complexity and finesse.
In the glass, it reveals an intense purple-red color with violet hues. On the nose, it offers a broad and enveloping bouquet, with fruity notes intertwined with hints of Mediterranean herbs, providing depth and character. On the palate, it is structured and well-balanced, with a pleasant balsamic freshness that supports its power without weighing it down.
It is a perfect match for game, roasted meats, dishes with Mediterranean aromatic herbs, and aged cheeses.
