Description
What kind of wine is it
The Brunello di Montalcino by Pian del Prete is a structured and elegant red wine, produced exclusively from Sangiovese grapes grown in the Montalcino area. It stands out for its full and balanced profile, with a well-defined tannic texture. The vinification process involves spontaneous fermentation and long ageing in French oak barrels. The subsequent period in the bottle gives the wine a rich aromatic complexity, ensuring a deep tasting experience.
Where it comes from
It is born in the Montalcino territory, in Tuscany, from hillside vineyards situated between 330 and 350 meters above sea level. The vines benefit from a south and south-west exposure and take root in sandy-silty soils. The espalier training system and targeted management keep yields per hectare under control. These pedoclimatic conditions ensure regular ripening, leading to optimal concentration and a clear varietal expression.
How it is produced
The process starts with a natural, spontaneous fermentation of the grapes, lasting about two weeks. This is followed by thirty-eight months of maturation in large French oak barrels, an essential step to accompany the evolution of the varietal profile while preserving its characteristics. The process ends with several months of ageing in the bottle, favoring a balanced integration of structural elements before release.
Tasting notes
In the glass it shows a ruby red color with bright garnet reflections. The bouquet is refined and layered, offering hints of blue fruit and small berries, finishing with a pronounced note of liquorice. On the palate it is enveloping, sustained by velvety tannins perfectly integrated into the structure. The sip lingers in a long, persistent finish, distinguished by an underlying refined elegance.
Food pairings
Its tannic texture pairs well with structured meat dishes, such as red meat and game. The body balances rich preparations and creates harmonious combinations. In Tuscan tradition, it is a perfect match for bistecca alla fiorentina and the classic peposo. It is also ideal with braised wild boar, a dish that enhances its aromatic persistence.
When to serve it
It is suitable for accompanying important dinners, where a full-bodied, high-quality red is appreciated alongside hearty courses. Careful ageing delivers a wine with a mature, balanced flavor profile, offering a harmonious sip right from the start. It can be enjoyed upon serving or stored in the cellar for long aging, as it is designed to develop positively over time.
