Description
What kind of wine is it
Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2019 Biondi-Santi Tenuta Greppo is an expression of great discipline and elegance, heir to a tradition that has made history in this territory, and is dedicated to the unforgettable Franco Biondi-Santi, the gentleman of Brunello. Made exclusively from Sangiovese Grosso, it interprets the Riserva style with structure and depth, combining aromatic complexity and precision on the palate. It is a red wine of remarkable character, designed for slow, harmonious aging over time.
Where does it come from
The 2019 Riserva has been made exclusively from a selection of estate-grown grapes, including the oldest vineyards at Tenuta Greppo. The year was characterized by a rainy and cool spring with slow growth and late flowering, followed by a hot, dry June and July. In mid-July, northern winds and a refreshing thunderstorm restored thermal balance, while a hot and dry August with rainfall at the end of the month created ideal conditions for ripening; harvest began on September 14.
How it is made
The vinification of the 2019 Riserva took place in oak barrels, concrete, and steel, using only native yeasts from the estate's vineyards. This approach preserves territorial identity and expressive authenticity. The wine was then aged for 28 months in large Slavonian oak barrels, allowing for slow maturation and harmonious integration of structure.
Tasting notes
In the glass, it displays a brilliant ruby red, intense and luminous. The bouquet is broad and layered, with hints of ripe red fruits, delicate floral notes, and gradually emerging spicy and developed nuances. On the palate, it shows structure and depth, with dense, well-integrated tannins, supported by balanced freshness leading to a long, savory, and persistent finish.
Food pairing
It pairs well with hearty meat dishes such as braised meats, roasts, and game, and also balances beautifully with rich pasta dishes with ragù and aged, long-matured cheeses.
When to drink it
This wine is ideal for special occasions and dedicated tastings, best served at 16–18°C in large glasses to encourage aeration. The structure of the 2019 vintage and the long aging period give it significant aging potential in the bottle, promising growing complexity over the years.
